The Pont du Gard, in addition to being an exceptional monument built by the Romans and recognised as a world heritage site by UNESCO, offers a superb interactive museum, numerous activities, temporary exhibitions and a magnificent sound and light show during the summer.
The Pont du Gard, 30km from the lodge ( 27 mn). Worth the diversions!
There is no shortage of words to describe it! It will interest both adults and children.
It is possible to spend the day there both inside and outside. It is open all year round and 7 days a week (the museum is closed every Monday morning):
The museum:
A few meters from the Pont du Gard, the largest interpretation centre in France on the Roman multidisciplinary genius tells you the history of the ancient aqueduct of Nîmes. Models, full-scale reconstructions, virtual tours, multimedia screens, sound effects and theatre accompany you on this journey through time!- Memories of the Garrigue:
An open-air tour that will take you on a journey through the history of the Mediterranean landscape, the local terroir and the remains of the Roman aqueduct (and also the thousand-year-old olive trees). - Cinema:
The cinema is a space where the Pont du Gard is one of the main actors :-) mixing documentaries and fictions. - Ludo:
This is the essential museum space with educational activities for 5 to 12 year olds and animations according to 4 playful discovery themes. - Temporary exhibitions:
Each year, the Pont du Gard site hosts a new temporary exhibition focusing on art, history or science. On the square in front of the building, on the left bank, a permanent exhibition on the World Heritage and the Great Sites of France is on offer all year round. - And the sound and light shows during the summer nights with the arches as a support are superb. :-)
