From 22 October 2022 to 20 February 2023, the Musée départemental Arles antique is hosting the "Treasures from the depths of the seas" exhibition.
An exceptional visit to the heart of our submerged heritage which offers to discover more than 300 objects and about thirty archaeological sites.
In Arles, 45 km from the lodge (
49 mn motorway ou 1h main road).
An exhibition in partnership with the Department of Underwater Archaeological Research (Drassm, Ministry of Culture) recognised as being of national interest by the Ministry of Culture and placed under the patronage of the French National Commission for UNESCO.
Through the presentation of more than 300 objects and some thirty archaeological sites, the exhibition reveals the reality and diversity of submerged heritage.
Far from the fantasized underwater treasures, these are mostly modest objects from wrecks but also from port sites, fisheries and even sunken forests.
However, this exceptional heritage remains fragile and subject to many dangers:
- What are these threats?
- What means are available to protect these maritime cultural assets?
This exhibition, whose chronological scope extends from prehistory to the Second World War, invites you to discover it through a journey through French maritime waters.
